Doctoral Candidate Spatial statistics for integrating IoT field sensor data and remote sensing data for nature-inclusive solutions in tree crop diseases

Job description The University of Twente, Faculty ITC, wishes to increase the number of women in the faculty to have a more balanced staff profile. During all phases of the selection process, we will therefore prioritize selecting women who fit the profile. Your challenge The Dutch government, through the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, has responded to the current global environmental challenges by establishing sector plan positions in critical scientific domains. At the Department of Environmental Resources, one of our activities is to address these challenges by developing and…

PhD

PhD position in multi-material additive manufacturing for advanced chip cooling

Job description We offer a fully funded 4-year PhD position within the University of Twente on the development of ultra-efficient cooling technologies for advanced semiconductor packaging. The project, UltraCool, combines materials science, additive manufacturing, thermal engineering, and semiconductor integration to enable direct bonding between silicon and high-conductivity metals such as copper. The rapid growth of AI and high-performance computing is driving heat fluxes in advanced chip packages beyond 1,000 W/cm², making thermal management one of the key bottlenecks for future…

PhD position in “Water Footprint Assessment and Water Credit Design in Egypt’s Horticulture Sector”

Job description The Challenge Egypt’s horticulture sector operates under growing pressure from limited water availability, salinity, and rising competition over finite water resources. At the same time, the sector is economically important for food security, rural livelihoods, and export earnings, which means that improving water productivity is not only an environmental protection measure but also a strategic development and trade challenge. These pressures call for better evidence on current and future water use, stronger metrics for identifying good performance, and more robust ways to…

2 PhD positions on Measuring the Future of Power Electronics

Job description The challenge: Power electronics are central to renewable-energy systems, electric mobility, industrial electrification and modern power grids. New wide-bandgap semiconductor devices based on silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) can switch faster and reduce conversion losses, but their performance is increasingly difficult to measure with sufficient bandwidth, accuracy and traceability. When converter efficiencies exceed 99%, even very small measurement errors can obscure the losses that designers need to understand. Within the EU Chips Joint Undertaking project…

PhD

PhD position in-Operando Neuromorphic OptoElectronics

Job description As a PhD student, you will work on a project focused on developing in-situ optical sensing for polymer-based electronics: using light to non-invasively inspect, understand, and improve their stability and performance, with the aim to develop energy-efficient optoelectronic devices. You’ll select and design conductive polymers, fabricate electronics devices, then build in-situ UV-Vis/Raman/surface enhanced Raman spectroscopies platform to reveal hidden processes such as interfacial charge transfer, redox switching, doping and dedoping, morphology dynamics, and local electric…
