CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) researcher positions are permanent civil-service roles dedicated to research, with no mandatory teaching load. They are among the most competitive positions in European academia, with annual recruitment campaigns (concours) attracting hundreds of applicants per opening.
Postdoctoral researchers in France typically earn €2,500–3,200 net per month, depending on the funding source and years of experience. Salaries at public institutions follow civil-service grids, while some private research institutes and ANR-funded projects offer slightly higher rates.
