Post-doctoral position in Experimental Analysis and Control of Induction Welding Process for Thermoplastic Composites of Thermoplastic Manufacturing Process

Job description The challenge Weight is a major obstacle in making the transport sector green, as extra mass means extra energy consumption. Polymer composites offer light weight solutions to potentially reduce 20-30% of mass. However, current generation (thermoset) solutions are hard to recycle. Thermoplastic composite (TPC) components, instead, can be produced rapidly and recycled relatively easily. The major challenge, however, is in scaling up both the series size and the physical dimensions of the structures in a viable and sustainable way. While the manufacturing of individual parts is…

PhD Position: CO2 Desublimation for Cryogenic Carbon Capture

Job description Job description Carbon capture will play an important role in reducing CO₂ emissions from sectors such as power generation, steel production and cement manufacturing. One promising route is cryogenic carbon capture, in which CO₂ is cooled to very low temperatures and turns directly from gas into solid. This gas-to-solid phase change is called desublimation. Although cryogenic carbon capture can produce high-purity CO₂ without relying on chemical solvents, the physics of CO₂ desublimation is still not sufficiently understood. In particular, we need to know how the solid layer…

PhD

2 PhD positions in Ultrafast optical control of topological magnetic textures

Are you fascinated by controlling magnetic matter by femtosecond laser pulses, eager to explore the underlying physical mechanisms, and passionate to develop a generic tool to ‘print’ complex textures just by design? Join us as a PhD candidate on the ERC project “Topological Magnetism by Photonic Design” – TOP DESIGN! Topology is a fundamental concept with intriguing implications. Central in your project will be the skyrmion – a nanoscale, whirling magnetic texture. Skyrmions are topologically protected and act like particles; they can be created, moved and annihilated – ideal to store and…

Frequently asked questions

What is the 30% ruling for researchers in the Netherlands?+

The 30% ruling is a Dutch tax benefit for international knowledge workers, including academic researchers. It allows employers to pay 30% of the salary tax-free as a reimbursement for extraterritorial costs, effectively reducing the tax burden for up to five years.

What is the CAO NU salary scale?+

CAO NU (Collectieve Arbeidsovereenkomst Nederlandse Universiteiten) is the collective labour agreement for Dutch universities. Postdocs typically fall in scale 10–11 (€3,200–4,500 gross/month), while PhD candidates follow a separate four-year salary progression from roughly €2,770 to €3,540.
